M Squared Strategies was originally founded in 2002 by Mayi Canales, formerly Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary and Chief Information Officer at the Department of the Treasury. The company received its official 8(a) certification in 2003, and primarily focused on providing program and performance management, strategic planning and management analysis support.
In 2007, J. Kendall Lott became President of the company and began expanding client engagements, maturing service offerings, and increasing the company profile in the DC professional community. Having succeeded in supporting clients in the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Energy, the company grew in revenue and maturity, ultimately graduating from the 8(a) program in March 2008.
In 2009, the company initiated the Applied Management Professionals (AMP) Program, an internship program aimed at providing graduate students with hands-on experience in delivering management consulting services to government clients. The inaugural year for the AMP Program began with five interns delivering organizational design and financial management projects to the Department of Energy. Due to the successful efforts in 2009, the AMP Program expanded in 2010 to include both the Department of Energy and the Department of Transportation.
Today, M Squared Strategies delivers a comprehensive suite of advanced management strategy and consulting services to senior managers and high-profile organizations in the Federal Government.
